Children
Partial Hospitalization Program
This unique mental health program provides a safe, day-long therapeutic environment where children can learn and grow academically and emotionally.
It is specifically designed for children aged 5 - 14 (Children's Program) and 14 - 21 (Adolescent Program) with emotional and/or behavioral disturbances. Participating children display behaviors or have needs that are severe enough to warrant an out-of-school placement, yet have enough support and self-control to function at home during the evenings and weekends. The program is licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare.

Diagnosis
An evaluation with our board-certified psychiatrist is required before a child can be accepted into this program. The psychiatrist will work with you, your child and other professionals to carry out a comprehensive assessment and make an accurate diagnosis. Other professionals may also be involved in the diagnostic process, including your family doctor, psychologists or other mental health specialists.
Children or adolescents can be referred to the program as soon as a diagnosis has been confirmed. Our treatment team then begins the process of helping the child learn the skills necessary to successfully function in the school setting.
Treatment
Our well-coordinated approach calls on the expertise of several team members, including:
- A licensed psychologist who oversees each treatment plan
- A board-certified psychiatrist who provides medication management if necessary
- Mental health specialists
- Program director
- Additional outside agencies involved in the child's care
We also work closely with case managers, teachers, school administrators, physicians and others who are specially trained to meet the emotional, mental health and educational needs of your child.
Treatment plans focus on behavior modification and academic achievement and are tailored to meet individual needs. Treatment options may include:
- One-on-one therapy to help manage behaviors and learn how to recognize appropriate social boundaries
- Family therapy to help parents learn how to work effectively with their child
- Educational assistance, delivered in small group settings and in partnership with local school districts and certified teachers, to make sure your child is getting the attention and academic instruction to meet grade level expectations
- Medication management when it's needed to reduce stress, manage anger, alleviate anxiety or treat other contributing symptoms
Services are available Monday - Friday from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm at our Bedford location.
